'Suicide Squad': Is Jared Leto Going Overboard With The Joker’s Weird Antics On Set? [RELEASE DATE, CAST & RUMORS]

Ever since shooting for "Suicide Squad" began, rumors have circulated about Jared Leto's unusual behavior on set. The Oscar winner reportedly applied method acting to stay true to his role as The Joker in the film. However, many are wondering whether he has blown things out of proportion.

According to Comicbook.com, while Leto's co-stars - Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney, Scott Eastwood and Will Smith - commended his expertise and dedication to the role, they also said that they have never spoken to Leto out of his Joker character.

In addition, Jared Leto has sent the cast weird stuff like a live-rat to Robbie, and a box containing bullets to Will Smith. One of the film's producers also said that Leto would only respond on set when he is called "Mr. J."

However, according to the website Not Yet Rated, Leto had not been difficult with the crew on the set of "Suicide Squad."

"He's never once heard anyone call Jared "Mr. J" in order for him to cooperate. What my source has told me, however, is that during a portion of the filming, the cast and crew were located in a prison and when filming wrapped up for the day, Jared would tell the crew to lock him up in one of the cells, keep the key and allow him to stay in the prison cell overnight," a source reportedly said.

The "50 Seconds to Mars" vocalist also dropped The Joker façade and joked around with the crew and members at times.

It's worth noting that the Leto's weirdness on set has been essential to bringing the sinister personality of "Suicide Squad's" The Joker to life.

According to Vine Report, producer Charles Roven sat down with Collider and explained Jared Leto's weird antics.

"The group first wasn't sure because the AD's had to call him 'Mr. J' to get him to come to the set. He did in many ways isolate himself from the rest of the group, but that's really what his character was, the purpose of his character in many ways, other than when he was with Harley or trying to get Harley," Roven said.

"It was very entertaining, it was fuel for a lot of good sport and a lot of laughs, and his isolation bonded the squad, and we wanted the squad bonded," he added.

"Suicide Squad" is both written and is directed by David Ayer (Fury). Cast includes Will Smith (Deadshot), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jared Leto (The Joker), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag), Cara Delevingne (Enhantress), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Killer Croc), Adam Beach (Slipknot), Jay Hernandez (Diablo) and Karen Fukahara (Katana).

The "Suicide Squad" release date has been scheduled on August 5, 2016.
