The new Netflix TV series 'Jessica Jones' already has a lot of Marvel characters, but if it actually aired on NBC, there would've been one major superhero who might be working with the feisty private investigator.
In an interview with IGN, showrunner Melissa Rosenberg confirmed that there was a time when Jessica Jones' comic book BFF Captain Marvel was supposed to be a part of the show.
"Back when it was at ABC Network, I did use Carol Danvers," Rosenberg admitted. "But between then and when it ended up on Netflix, you know, the MCU shifted, and it also shifted away from the universe in the [comic] book."
Melissa Rosenberg was quick to explain that things work differently in the comic books and in the movies.
"In the book, the powers are very out in the open and the themes of that are about 'the other,' and in the cinematic universe that's not the mythology," she said, adding that the decision to cut Captain Marvel out still worked out for the superhero anyway.
"There was a lot that I had to move away from, just in terms of sheer plot, and Carol Danvers got her own movie," Rosenberg concluded.
Although the cut meant that the world will not be seeing Jessica Jones and Captain Marvel going out for drinks, it did make way for Tricia (Patsy) Walker aka Hellcat to be the new BFF. And according to Melissa Rosenberg, it worked perfectly.
"As it turned out, Patsy Walker ended up being an incredibly-a much more appropriate fit with Jessica," she said. "It was better that her best friend was not someone with powers. It actually ends up being a really great mirror for her."
'Jessica Jones' stars Krysten Ritter, David Tennant, Mike Colter, Carrie-Anne Moss and Rachael Taylor as Tricia Walker. The full season is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
