Edgar Wright is making an animated film.
Deadline is reporting that the Shaun of the Dead director has just inked a deal with Dreamworks Animation that will see him direct and co-write a still untitled animated feature based on "the concept of shadows."
Wright will be working on the script together comedian David Walliams, creator of the TV series Little Britain. The project is Wright's first since he walked away from Marvel Studios' Ant-Man franchise last year.
"My first endeavors in filmmaking as a teenager were in animation, so it was hugely intriguing to get a call from DreamWorks Animation about potentially directing," said Wright in an official press release. "When the Shadows concept was suggested to me, I could see the poster, the title sequence and pretty much the whole movie. It's a blast writing this and to have one of my oldest friends in comedy, David Walliams, along for the adventure is a thrill."
DreamWorks is equally excited to have Wright on board. In their own statement, Bonnie Arnold and Mireille Soria, co-presidents of DreamWorksFeature Animation said:
"Edgar will spearhead a new approach to this fascinating concept and we're ecstatic to have him onboard as director along with David as co-writer, We've always been intrigued by a film concept involving shadows, and now with Edgar's signature comedic style and abilities as a natural storyteller, audiences will be treated to a truly captivating and energetic tale."
A release window for the project wasn't provided in the announcement.
Wright is also working on a heist film titled 'Baby Driver.' Last month Variety reported that Mad Men star Jon Hamm had already signed on a for a role in the film. Jaime Foxx and Lily James are also confirmed to star in the film.
The production team is aiming for a March 17, 2017 release date.
