Productive Night Owls: People Who Sleep Late Are Actually Smarter And More Creative

Some people would tend to stay up late at night up until the wee hours in the morning, though this act is often unintentional. Most individuals would prefer to be the early bird, as it can lead into a lot of positive health benefits. Being a 'Night Owl' however has its own perks.

As per HuffPost, an evolutionary scientist at the London School of Economics and Political Science, Satoshi Kanazawa, night owls tend to have higher IQ. Kanazawa was able to find a relationship between intelligence and adaptive behaviors which were "evolutionary novel".  His study concluded that "more intelligent children are more likely to grow up to be nocturnal adults who go to bed late and wake up late on both weekdays and weekends."

Higher IQs may be one of the traits night owls possess but Researchers from the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan was able to come onto conclusion that night people are "more likely to develop original and creative solutions to problems than morning people."

The lead researcher of the study Marina Giampetro came into hypothesis that night owls has the capacity to be more creative than their early bird peers. She then stated that staying up late "may encourage the development of a non-conventional spirit and of the ability to find alternative and original solutions."

As per BBC News on the other hand, a research made by the Westminster stated that people who wake up early is reported to have muscle aches, cold symptoms, and even headaches.  The lead researcher Angela Clow stated that:

"This work is interesting because it may provide a physiological basis for the often-reported difference between early and late risers. Early awakening was associated with greater powers of concentration, being busier and experiencing more hassles throughout the day as well as reporting more anger and less energy at the end of the day. On the other hand late wakers were more leisurely and less busy. It is possible that cortisol may contribute towards these differences in temperament as it is known to be able to influence mood and concentration."
