Star Wars Battlefront has finally hit stores today. After releasing early for EA Access users last week, the full release is finally out for everyone to play. The game is among the most hyped of the holiday season, with many players itching to get in on the intense multiplayer action.
Have DICE and EA created an experience worthy of the Star Wars name? Let's see what the critics are saying.
After the open beta test, the question on most gamers' minds was whether or not Battlefront would have enough content to justify its $60 price tag. The game features a robust set of multiplayer modes and decent selection of maps and planets, but it pales in comparison to the offerings from previous Battlefront titles.
Can Battlefront do what other similarly priced online-only games like Titanfall and Evolve couldn't? Not from the looks of it.
Many reviews have criticized the game for its lack of features, saying there simply isn't enough here to justify paying full price. Forbes magazine's Jason Evangelho flat out says the game isn't worth it, writing "That sobering truth is that there simply isn't enough content or variety here to justify a $60 purchase."
Gamespot echoed this sentiment, awarding the game a respectable 7 out of 10, saying that, "It front loads its best content, only to fade in quality as the hours roll by. Star Wars Battlefront's skin is beautiful, but its legs are shaking, and threaten to buckle with time."
So far the game sits a mixed 74 out of 100 rating on Metacritic. It's clear that DICE is on to something with their take on Battlefront, but sadly it looks like there simply isn't enough diversity here to make it a game you'll play for hours on end.
