The latest DC news will certainly have fans getting more excited prior to the release of the films, since it involves Ben Affleck possibly directing "Justice League: Part 1." However, there remains the mystery of how "Suicide Squad" will turn out with a PG-13 rating.
2016 is going to be a very busy year for DC. Previous DC news revealed that "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" and "Suicide Squad" are already in post-production. In addition to other high-profile projects, Warner Bros. is also in preparations for "Wonder Woman,"
The latest DC news is producer Charles Roven's latest interview which reveals details about "Wonder Woman" and "Justice League: Part 1."
According to Collider, they sat down with Roven, who shared significant info on the two movies' shooting locations and production timeline.
"We're actually gonna start shooting Wonder Woman towards the end of November. We are shooting in the UK and in Italy... We're making most of Wonder Woman in the UK and we're also making most of Justice League there, JL One... We're definitely gonna be shooting Part One in the first or second quarter of next year," Roven revealed.
This means that "Justice League Part 1" and "Justice League Part 2" will not be shooting back-to-back as previously rumored. It also appears in between the two films, DC and Warner Bros. want to include three standalone movies.
In addition to this latest DC news, because "Justice League" has been rumored for years, many names have gotten involved in those rumors, including "Batman" star Ben Affleck.
Rumors of Ben Affleck directing "Justice League Part 1" has started as early as 2012. During that time, on an interview with 24 Hours Vancouver, the 43-year-old actor/director denied any involvement in the film. However, as it is in Hollywood, many things can happen. Affleck has said before that he doesn't want to direct a film unless he has a role in it, but since he has just been cast as Batman, who could appear in "Justice League Part 1," the director rumor surely sounds plausible now.
In addition, Affleck's directorial repertoire involves movies that delve on realistic and dramatic stories. Zack Snyder's take on the current DC films are also deeply rooted in the dramatic, meaning Affleck could easily follow suit.
Apart from the said DC news, Roven's interview with Collider also confirmed that "Wonder Woman" has yet to go through principal photography. This could mean that Warner Bros. either want to make full use of a multi-film shooting schedule or they want to complete the cast, which include Nicole Kidman who's in negotiations.
It is to be expected that the internet will blow up with numerous "Wondder Woman" set photos, tweets, and videos in the coming months since the shoot is to take place in Italy, a fitting alternative for the superheroe's home, Themyscira.
As for the "Suicide Squad" news, it came as a shock to fans that it has been announced as a PG-13 film as of late, since its trailer clearly provided mature and adult content.
"The intention of the film is definitely to be PG-13. We really want to make these films tonally consistent so that, as I said because this is a shared universe, at least our current thinking... so you want to leave yourself open to changing your mind, doing something different, being inspired, that's the whole process of filmmaking is you have to allow for inspiration as well as having a road map for what you're gonna do. So our plan right now is to make all these films PG-13. In some cases, you know, right there on the edge of PG-13, but still PG-13," Roven said.
According to The Inquisitr, it has been routine for big-budget films to go for family-friendly audiences in modern cinema. However, with "Suicide Squad," it doesn't seem to be in sync. It is a mystery and perhaps a challenge as to how the studio will decide to deal with the adult themes of the film which involves killers, not to mention the word Suicide in its title.
Most importantly, how will the Joker be portrayed in the film when Jared Leto's take on the Joker appears to be a very disturbing character in recent news. In addition, films with the Joker has pushed towards an R-rated demographic because of his disturbing psychopathic tendencies.
The Inquisitr added that with Marvel's "Deadpool" going for a hard R, it might be no surprise that it will now be a norm for many movies in years to come. "Suicide Squad" then could be making a mistake.
Marvel is currently the dominating force in superhero films, and with this new DC news, we can only hope that their upcoming films will keep viewers entertained.
"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" is set for release March 25, 2016, while "Suicide Squad" is scheduled on August 5, 2016.
