Disney XD's On The Set 'The Force Awakens' Featurette Has New Footages And Hints On The Importance Of BB-8 [VIDEO]

The highly anticipated sequel 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' is still a month away from its release date, but Disney and Lucasfilm has been endlessly promoting the film. Following the release of two stunning trailers and a feature on Entertainment Weekly, Disney XD has a quick behind-the-scenes look at the movie's young heroes which features some new footage.

The Disney XD special shows a new unnamed creature as well as a shot of General Hux (Domhnall Gleeson) ordering his underlings to fire. The host also offers a quick synopsis of 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens,' which suggests that the android BB-8 is much more important than just an adorable new droid.

"A long time ago, a group of young heroes banded together to save the galaxy from the evil empire. A dark new threat promises to destroy everything that they fought for," the host said.

"Now, it's time for a new generation of heroes," he continues. "Rey, a scavenger looking for answers and Finn, a rogue Stormtrooper looking for something to fight for, team up with the mysterious droid BB-8. These three must make a choice: continue their journey alone or work together to defeat the Dark Side."

So who is BB-8, and what role will the droid play in 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens?' It was previously confirmed that BB-8 actually belongs to Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) and may have ended up with Rey (Daisy Ridley) after being accidently left behind by the Resistance in Jakku. There is a possibility that, like R2-D2 in the original 'Star Wars' trilogy, BB-8 might also hold some important information about the First Order.

The feature also has a scene showing Finn and Rey aboard a ship (the Millennium Falcon, maybe?) trying to convince themselves that they can fly it.

'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' also marks the return of Han Solo, Princess Leia Organa (now known as General Leia) as well as Luke Skywalker, who has yet to appear in any of the posters, trailers, features or TV spots. The film will hit theaters on December 18.
