Aziz Ansari has been the toast of Hollywood this week thanks to the runaway success of his new Netflix comedy Master of None. When making the show, Ansari made the bold decision to cast his own father and mother, Shoukath and Fatima Ansari, as the parents of his on-screen alter ego, Dev.
Despite having no prior acting experience, his parents hit a homerun. The casting choice was celebrated by critics - with many reviews praising the touching, heartfelt family relationship that was depicted on the show.
Following an appearance on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the younger Ansari thanked his parents for their involvement in his project by posting a tear-jerking tribute on his Instagram account.
"My dad took off most of his vacation time for the year to act in Master of None. So I'm really relieved this all worked out. Tonight after we did Colbert together he said: "This is all fun and I liked acting in the show, but I really just did it so I could spend more time with you." He writes. "I almost instantly collapsed into tears at the thought of how much this person cares about me and took care of me and gave me everything to give me the amazing life I have."
Ansari ended his message by urging his followers to cherish the times they share with their parents.
"Enjoy and love these people while you can. Anyway, this show and my experiences with my parents while working on it have been very important in many ways and I thank for you the part you all have played in it."
All ten episodes of Master of None are now available for streaming on Netflix. You should definitely check the show out.
