It's definitely not too late to celebrate a spooky Halloween before the month of November ends, but was Jason Aldean's Lil Wayne costume too much?
A representative of Jason Aldean confirmed that the country singer wore blackface as part of his Lil Wayne costume during the October holiday. His wife Brittany Kerr was reportedly standing next to him and was also seen sporting dreadlocks. However, she did not wear blackface.
While Aldean has not yet issued an apology statement regarding the issue, his publicist Tyne Parrish sent an email on Tuesday, November 10, to confirm that the country crooner "dressed as rapper Lil Wayne for Halloween". He declined to give further comments.
Reports say that the photo was first posted on NashvilleGab.com, showing the singer all dressed up with long dreadlocks, sunglasses and a gold jewelry. The photo quickly went viral and has drawn several reactions from people in the social media, calling it an obvious form of racism.
Besides Tyne Parrish, Broken Bow Records, Aldean's record label, was also asked for a statement, but said they had no comment.
Jason Aldean is among the country music's most prominent performers, who regularly sells out fully-booked stadiums during concerts and shows. Besides that, the 38-year old musician was also named as the top digital selling male country artist back in 2014 by the Recording Industry Association of America.
His previous hit studio album 'Old Boots, New Dirt' was a certified platinum, adding that he also recently made a jaw-dropping performance during the Country Music Association Awards, where he was enlisted as contenders under for the 'Album of the Year' category.
Aldean is also nominated for 'Favorite Male County Artist' and 'Favorite Country Album' on the upcoming American Music Awards, which is set to take place on November 22, Sunday.
Jason Aldean is not the first artist to put on blackface for Halloween. Back in 2013, Julianne Hough also wore blackface to impersonate her favorite character from Netflix' 'Orange is the New Black'.
