5 Cups of Tea a Day Keeps the Doctor Away

It's a known fact that teas can play an important role in one's diet. As per the Web Md different types of teas have their own medical benefits. Studies have proven that teas can help in decreasing the risk of cancer, heart diseases, diabetes, and can even aid in weight loss.

As per Katherine Tallmadge, MA, RD, LD, a spokeswoman from the American Dietetic Association teas doesn't have a downside.

"There doesn't seem to be a downside to tea, I think it's a great alternative to coffee drinking. First, tea has less caffeine. It's pretty well established that the compounds in tea - their flavonoids - are good for the heart and may reduce cancer."

As per the Telegraph, the spokesman of the Health Council of Netherlands, Eert Schoten:

"We noted that in the scientific literature in the last 10 years, there are clear signs that drinking tea is good for your health. Three to five cups a day reduce blood pressure, diabetes and stroke risks, so this comes as one of our 16 guidelines."

It was however stated on the guidelines that the tea must either be green or black. Rooibos and other herbal teas however do not count.

As per the website, children as young as four are encouraged to drink the healthy drink. Some schools in central Amsterdam are being offered milk teas for their lunch time drink considering the benefits. Herbal tea especially made for children are being sold in the market, which even comes in cartoon packages to arouse interest in kids.

As per the member of the Tea Advisory Panel, Tim Bond, the Dutch guidance is doing their best in "keeping with what we would advocate".

He even added that:

"A number of recent studies looking at long term drinking habits have indicated that 3-5 cups of tea are associated with reduced risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke, other studies in the short term looking at risk factors also agree that daily tea consumption in this range are likely to have a positive impact on heart heath."
