Idris Elba: ‘Luther’ Coming Back For One-Night Special, 3-Hour TV Movie Starring John Luther!

Those who follow BBC shows like "Sherlock" are often in agony as the seasons are much too sporadic, and Idris Elba's "Luther" is no different than the series starring Benedict Cumberbatch; now, two years after the most recent season, Elba's Detective John Luther will come back to television screens!

BBC America has just announced that Idris Elba's "Luther" is coming back as soon as this December, with the "Thor" actor returning to his popular and Golden Globe-winning role for the first time since 2013 in an episode airing next December 17 - with a full three hours of John Luther.

According to DNA India, BBC America recently announced the return of Idris Elba's "Luther" on its official Twitter page, saying the one-night comeback event for the character won't be presented as a new season but rather a television movie, after having gone through three seasons with very few episodes: the first one only had six, while the second and third ones had only four.

This Idris Elba "Luther" return is scheduled to air on the United Kingdom next month as well, though the specific date for the original UK audience has yet to be confirmed.

Games Radar reports that Idris Elba's "Luther" return won't see Ruth Wilson coming back in her role of Alice Morgan, but another redhead will take her place as Rose Leslie, best known for her roles in "Downton Abbey" and "Game of Thrones," will be playing Sergeant Emma Lane.

"A gruesome cannibalistic serial killer has struck the city, eating body parts as he goes," reads the synopsis for the upcoming Idris Elba "Luther" special, according to Slash Film. "With a trail of clues leading from one crime scene to the next, Detective Superintendent Unit Martin Schenk (Dermot Crowley, Babel, Bleak House) and his team must work out the twisted logic that connects each victim. But this murdering mastermind is more than a match for Schenk's police, outsmarting them at every step. It's not long before Luther makes his triumphant return to the Bullpen, determined to capture the killer before another mutilated body joins the mounting pile. But he's dogged at every turn by ghosts from his past. Isolated and volatile, it will take every fiber of Luther's being to keep it together."
