Leading Republican candidate for president former neurosurgeon Ben Carson believed that the pyramids were built for the purpose of grain silos.
According to archeologists and historians Carson's "belief" had shaken years of scientific research regarding ancient Egypt.
In a convention held at Andrew's University, Carson said, "and when you look at the way that the pyramids were made, with many chambers that are hermetically sealed, they'd have to be that way for a various reasons. And various of scientists have said, 'well you know where were alien beings that came down they have special knowledge and that's how, you know, it doesn't require an alien being when God is with you."
To date, no scientist or archeologist claimed that the pyramids were built by alien beings. Though there are others who believe in pseudo archeological explanations.
Carson based his claim on the story of Genesis where in at that time when Joseph of the Old Testament was sold into slavery, he built the pyramids to store grains in preparation for the seven years of famine. "My own personal theory is that Joseph built the pyramids in order to store grain," said Carson.
According to archeologists, the ancient Egyptians themselves gave the reasons behind the building of the pyramids.
Over the years, many people have denied the capability of ancient civilization to build huge structures such as the pyramids. Some even believed that a higher religious power or extra terrestrial beings are the mind behind these monumental structures.
In his latest interview with CBS News, Carson restated his grain silo theory. This goes to show his profound unawareness of scientific and archeological researches.
As the Republican's standard bearer, many had been disappointed of Carson's lack of knowledge regarding ancient history.
It was 93 years ago that the pyramid of King Tutankhamen was first explored. Many artifacts including the mummified body of the boy king was found.
