Are Gifted and Talented Individuals Too Passionate?

Gifted people are often being called out for being too passionate, but is there a rationale behind that fact? Numerous examples were cited such as numerous interviews and statement that were gathered from the High Ability Org. website.

The actor, Richard E. Grant shared his insights in regards to being the correlation between being gifted and being too passionate in an interview:

"You only learn about yourself, it seems, from how other people react or what they tell you about yourself. From the get go I've been accused of asking too many questions and being too passionate and extreme about what I like or what I don't like....It's like gorgonzola cheese - I'm probably an acquired taste! You know, I'm right in there. And it's not something that I really have control over so much as just that that's, you know, the DNA of my personality."

A doctor, Mary Elaine Jacobsen, PhD then added:

"Gifted adults need an advocate who champions their differences, not someone who unwittingly reflects inapt urgings to 'slow down and stop being so touchy, driven, overly-responsible, and intense', to impersonate the social norm."

The Developing Multiple Talents website then reported that Kazimierz Dabrowski a Polish psychiatrist and psychologist developed a study on personality and emotional development.

His focused on developing a theory of personality and emotional development that is applicable in understanding the "psychology of extra intelligent and intense gifted and talented individuals."

Psychology Today then added that gifted and talented people are swamped with problems, most especially with the fact that they would tend to over think.

Gfted people, most especially children are often misinterpreted with having "behaviorist problems" as they would tend to exhibit inattentiveness and outbursts, but these traits are highly normal for the,.

The website then added that being gifted can be correlated to "over-excitabilities", in which the individual can be emotionally sensitive and empathetic.
