Rebel Wilson, the Australian actress and comedian just promoted her new plus-size clothing line. The Aussie actress known for her roles in the movies Pitch Perfect as 'Fat Amy' and Bridesmaids. Her line of collection is named Torrid and it caters to sizes 12 to 28.
Mainstream fashion has only been focusing on women with small figures and options for plus-size women were always very limited. Now, a number of plus-size fashion lines have emerged to prove that fashion for women with bigger body figures should not be neglected.
According to The New York Times, Wilson's collection hit the stores last November 1. Her line has about 30 pieces with prices ranging from $16.50 to $98.50. Several varieties of clothes are sold including varsity jackets with the letter R (in honor of her boarding school), sweatshirts with her first name, and T-shirts with koala prints.
Torrid's vice president for marketing, Lisa Stanley said, "Plus is no different than anybody else." She added, "Girls just want to wear what everybody else is wearing, but they want it to fit them and make them look sexy and beautiful." Equality is the line's philosophy.
This is certainly in line with one of Wilson's reasons for creating the clothing line. According to Huffington Post, Wilson expressed earlier that she has not seen many brands that make cool, comfortable and affordable pieces for the plus-size market. With Wilson's Torrid now launched, all these are addressed.
One of the executives Tiffany Kaelin-Knight, editor in chief of the online magazine Skorch said, "It's another win for plus-size fashion." She added that with Torrid there are "No exceptions. No frumpy cover-up. You're out, you're proud, you're fat, you're happy".
This new fashion line will truly give an impact and change the recent fashion industry. It's time for the plus-size women to flaunt what they have got.
