OnHub Router Built by ASUS Now Available

ASUS introduces its newest OnHub router which is designed to be easier to set up and used. Its introductory price is at $219.99 and like the first edition released last August, this device is meant to be put outside and the base is much wider than the original one. Included as well to this new edition is the signature OnHub LED ring at the bottom.

Wave control is the newest feature of this device, true to its name, you can wave your hand over the top of the router to increase the speed of a specific device connected to the network.

According to sources, there are still drawbacks on the new OnHub router.

One of which is the limitation on the areas suitable to place the device which needs to be connected to a cable box. The aesthetics of the ASUS model had been built to be placed in eye level areas such as shelves. The built-in motion sensors also suggest for the device not to be kept hidden.

In addition, Google also announced the release of a new software update to the first OnHub router edition. This aims to give stronger signal through a new "smart antenna algorithm" in a given device connected to a network. It's still unclear on how the router chooses the device to boost up. According to sources, it's possible to set a default device to get boosted when using the wave control feature.

This new device is also controlled through Google On app as part of Google's aim to simplify router usage. OnHub also has common features with TP-Link model with the same storage and ports. This also supports 802.11 ac Wi-Fi and 5 GHz networks.

The new ASUS OnHub will initially be offered for a pre-sale on Google store as well as in other retailers.
