Jessica Mauboy has apologized and revealed her reason for not singing the national anthem at the Melbourne Cup.

Mauboy's management team has released a statement to explain the reason behind the singer's sudden cancelled performance. "There was a lot going on yesterday and there was miscommunication with her styling team, unfortunately by the time it was resolved the call time had been missed," the message reads, according to 9News. Victorian Racing Club President Simon Lowe on the other hand was disappointed by the sudden cancellation. But praised the back-up singer, who was reportedly given just 30 seconds to rehearse before hitting the stage.

"We were very disappointed that Jessica Mauboy was on course, and didn't perform today," Mr Lowe's statement reads. "We were grateful that Nadia Aya could perform the national anthem ahead of the Emirates Melbourne Cup."

The 26 year old pop singer, was due to sing Advance Australia Fair at Flemington on Tuesday, but was replaced by one of her back-up singers, Nadia Aya after she decided not to go on stage with undisclosed reason.

After the cancellation, according to ABC, there was speculation that it was due to a dispute between Mauboy's sponsors. It is believed that they were arguing over what footwear she would wear while singing on stage.

In the midst of the swirling speculations, Mauboy just kept her silence. Instead she thank her fans for the support and apologized to them through social media. "Thank you to everyone for all the messages of concern, I am OK. I am so sorry I didn't perform at the Melbourne Cup yesterday, I was really looking forward to it and of all the days for things to go wrong, unfortunately this was the one. I am so sorry to everyone for the disappointment xxxx JM," her message reads.
