Minutes and hours are usually spent by office workers every day just to read and respond to hundreds of cc'd and forwarded e-mails. As a matter of fact, according to a survey, e-mails take up around 13 hours a week. Isn't email supposed to make our lives faster and easier?
This might have been something Google, the world's biggest email service, has also been thinking when they decided to fix this problem with software that provides automatic responses to some emails. The world can now welcome Smart Reply this Thursday.
The "Smart Reply" function will predict which of your emails can be responded with a "short reply" and then write and present a few probable responses for you to choose from such as: "I'll be there" or "I'll look into it"-sounds pretty handy for busy and multitasking people, right.
A representative from Google told The Huffington Post that "Smart Reply" will actually get better at predicting the replies you need based on which ones you usually select.
In one example, the question might be "Do you have any documentation on how to use the new software"; the smart reply may offer three replies: "I don't, sorry", "I will have to look for it" and "I'll send it to you". Users can easily choose one from these options and send it without typing a word. However, the replies can also be edited if needed.
The awesome feature will be available on the English language version of its Inbox by Gmail app for Android and iOS.
Smart reply is built on two simulated "neural networks" that imitates the structure of the human brain. Google has "trained" it to understand the natural language. The neural network "learns" by scanning the contents of thousands of emails.
