Master of horror Takashi Miike is back with a chilling tale that will terrify audiences once again.
The international trailer for 'Over Your Dead Body' has been released, featuring '47 Ronin' star Kô Shibasaki and a weeping doll that is sure to haunt everybody's nightmares.
An excerpt from the movie synopsis reads as follows:
"A beautiful actress [Kô Shibasaki] plays the protagonist in a new play based on a legendary ghost story. She pulls some strings to get her lover cast in the play, although he's a relatively unknown actor. With the cast in place, rehearsals for the play, about an abusive relationship and a grudge, begin. But off stage, some begin to develop their own obsessions."
There is good reason why horror fans are thrilled over the trailer. Takashi Miike rose to fame for the disturbing 1999 movie 'Audition,' which has gained a cult following after its release. He also directed several international hits including 'Ichi the Killer' and 'One Missed Call.'
In 2005, Takashi Miike was invited to direct an episode for the anthology series 'Masters of Horror.' The result was the controversial episode 'Imprint,' which starred Billy Drago as an American journalist who discovers a former paramour's twisted fate. Showtime decided to cancel the airing of the episode because it was considered too dark and disturbing for US television, although 'Imprint' has been shown in Japan and the UK.
Kô Shibasaki is best known for playing Mitsuko Souma in the Japanese cult classic 'Battle Royale.' She has previously worked with Takashi Miike in 'One Missed Call' and reprised her role as Yumi Nakamura in the film's sequel. Her first international film was the 2013 Keanu Reeves film '47 Ronin.'
'Over Your Dead Body' was released in Japan on August 2014. However, Takashi Miike fans are still hoping that the film will also be distributed internationally.
