The 16 year old Teen Chef Flynn McGarry, known for his semi-pop up restaurant in New York called "Eureka" is one of Time's Most Influential Teens. McGarry tells Times what he eats when he's in Shake Shack in an interview.
Times asked McGarry if he's either a chef or a cook. His answer? He's the chef of Eureka and he creates the dishes inside his restaurant. He's the chef of his own restaurant. But if he goes into anyone else's kitchen, then he's the cook.
Flynn McGarry gave credit to Daniel Humm's sound advice when it comes to cooking. His advice to Flynn was that everything should be balanced - salt, acid, sweetness, everything. "That stuck with me," McGarry said.
He did part with some advice for people his age trying their wits in a cooking career. He claims that he gets emails from people around his age. All he can tell everyone aspiring to become chefs is that they need to be confident that they know what they're doing. The most important advice he can give, he says, "...never be like, "Alright, I'm done learning from other people." Never get to a place where you think you know everything, because you never will. Especially in cooking-there's always something else to learn."
After Eureka, the Teen Chef is in the process of opening a real restaurant within the next year. They're going to start looking at locations and investors.
The Teen Chef's pop up restaurant in New York which serves 12 people for a whopping 14 course menu for only $160 says his signature dishes are the foie gras Ritz cracker sandwich and the caramelized creme fraiche topped with caviar. But what he doesn't show on his menu and probably something not everyone knows is that he goes to Shake Shack. He's not sure if it's his most guiltiest pleasure but he sure loves Shake Shack.
He orders the Shack Burger and the cheezy french fries. His background however is French cuisine.
Eureka will be open until March 2016.
