'X-Men Apocalypse' News: Writer Talks Jean Grey, Cyclops, and Storm

It's already known that X-Men: Apocalypse will feature younger versions of three of the franchise's most popular mutants: Jean Grey, Cyclops, and Storm.

The trio were among the central players in the original X-Men movie trilogy; but the time-travelling events of the latest film, Days of Future Past, have thrown the series previous continuity out the door, paving the way for new takes on these iconic characters.

However, CinemaBlend says we shouldn't expect Apocalypse's iterations of these mutants to be all that different from their previous incarnations. An interview with X2 and Apocalypse co-writer Michael Dougherty reveals how the trio will be portrayed.

'I think they aren't changing as much as you're getting a peek into a portion of their lives you've simply never seen on the big screen. By the time you meet that trio at the beginning of X1 through X3, they are exactly who you think they should be.' He says.

Dougherty continues saying that the film will show us how the characters got to where they are in the original trilogy. It looks like fans hoping for major overhauls to these characters' arcs might not get what they're looking for with this one.

In other X-Men news, it appears that Michael Fassbender's Magneto will have at least one emotionally powerful scene.

During filming, Fassbender opted to ad-lib a scene, which elicited this reaction from director Brian Singer.

"I've never done that before...It's a heartbreaking scene, not a typical comic book movie scene at all, so let's hope it makes the cut. But after he did it, I went up to him, hugged him and said, 'Thank you, Michael, for that gift. Now I need you to do it again.' And he did it...with full emotion." Said Singer during the San Pedro International Film Festival.

The film opens May 26, 2016.
