As months go by, the well-oiled machine that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has turned to keeps going now that filming's complete for "Captain America: Civil War," so it's time for the producers to focus on other upcoming projects, including the Benedict Cumberbatch-led "Doctor Strange" - and even "Guardians of the Galaxy" news.
In the latest "Guardians of the Galaxy" news, there's one official confirmation of a new cast member, French actress Pom Klementieff (practically a newcomer, although she recently co-starred on Spike Lee's "Oldboy" remake), who has been hired to play an unspecified role in the sequel.
According to the latest "Guardians of the Galaxy" news on The Hollywood Reporter, Klementieff's character is "one of the new key roles" in the sequel to Chris Pratt's 2014 blockbuster; as filming is set to begin pretty soon, in the early months of 2016, this is probably the first of numerous casting updates on that front.
Io9's "Guardians of the Galaxy" news reports that little is known about Klementieff joining the cast other than the fact that she beat out many Asian actresses for the role, and that she had to go through a series of chemistry tests with members of the cast to snag a place in the film.
James Gunn, who wrote and directed the first film, will be returning for both jobs in the sequel and it appears he's currently finishing the final draft of the film as it gears into pre-production.
According to Screen Rant, Oscar-winning actor Matthew McConaughey was also offered a role in the upcoming film, as the main villain, and ultimately said no - in the past, McConaughey has shared he's read scripts for both DC and Marvel comic book adaptations, prompting rumors that he might be cast as "Spider-Man" nemesis Norman Osborne/Green Goblin).
Expect more casting "Guardians of the Galaxy" news in the next couple of months!
