Drew Barrymore: Actress Still Supports Mother Jaid Financially After Emancipation at Age 14

It is public knowledge that actress Drew Barrymore was famously emancipated from her mother, Jaid Barrymore at the age of 14. Her childhood with her mother who's now 69-years-old, was certainly turbulent.

Barrymore had written an autobiography following two stints in rehab for drug and alcohol abuse and was living on her own, but even though they have barely spoken since then love still exists.

“I still support her — I must know that she is taken care of or I simply cannot function,” Barrymore, 40, wrote (via Vulture). “I am grateful to this woman for bringing me into this world, and it would crush me to know she was in need anywhere.”

The 40-year-old star admits that her life while growing up was so incredibly unorthodoxed with little guidance but she harbors no ill will towards Jaid and will continue to support her lifestyle and make sure her parent lives as comfotably as possible.

When she was 13-years-old, Drew's upbringing was unusual for she had no relationship whatsoever with her father John Drew Barrymore.

Drew's father was a film actor and member of the Barrymore family of actors, his father's siblings are Lionel and Ethel.

“It is not who I am to harbor any anger for the fact that our life together was so incredibly unorthodox,” she wrote. “I want only to say thank you to her, because I love my life and it takes every step to get to where you are, and if you are happy, then God bless the hard times it took you to get there.”

Drew's book, which is a follow-up to her first 1990 tell-all ''Little Girl Lost,'' contains morsels about other meaningful people in her life such as her godfather Steven Spielberg.

“To say that we loved him is the understatement of the world,” she said of her E.T. costars. “Steven loved to freak people out with food, hence the food fights. He would put food in his mouth and then open it and say, ‘See food!’ and we all howled! He would dangle clams and then slurp them up, and we would all yell ‘Gross!!!!!’ and he loved it.”

Given the way Drew Barrymore was raised, it's extraordinary that she's figured anything out, she created Flower Beauty and Flower Eyewear, wife to art consultant Will Kopelman, and mom to Olive, 3-year-old, and Frankie, 1-year-old.

Barrymore's interview with The Guardian came after she revealed she suffered post-partum depression for six months following the birth of her second child.
