Throughout the years, donuts have been one of America's favorite snacks. From the simple light honey glazed pastry with a hole in the middle, donut stuffed with fruit jams, Nutella, Peanut butter - almost everything goes well with it!
In Portland, ME, a food store named The Holy Donut, reinvented the recipe of donuts by mixing a hearty helping of mashed potatoes with their dough. The batter makes a light and fluffy textured cake donut is moister than the usual donut without mashed potatoes in their dough. Employees told the Phantom Gourmet, that the fried donuts cook for a minute on each of its side. It then creates allows the crust to be crisp - that makes way for that gooey, sweet donut that melts in your mouth
Delish correspondents gave in to the tempting looks of these donuts so they tried a few and here's what they found out:
"On weekend mornings, there's almost always a line inside The Holy Donut's two shops, but the company keeps things moving with a set of five rules (the fifth being "come back again soon!"). Everyone in line recommended three donuts in particular: pomegranate, for its all-natural-yet-shockingly-bright-magenta-glaze, chocolate glazed with sea salt, and the bakery's savory option, Bacon Cheddar."
The shop offers three donuts during the weekends, pomegranate, and chocolate glazed with sea salt and Bacon Cheddar. Among the three flavors mentioned, the Bacon Cheddar, although pricier than the other two, selling at $3.27 each, won the hearts of the taste testers. Why? Aside from having Bacon, they described it similar to a "potato roll stuffed with smokey, salty bacon and sharp white cheddar cheese."
Aside from selling donuts and other potato food items, the shop also sells coffee, and novelty items. The store closes at 3 or 4 p.m, or while baked stuff supplies last, as written in their Facebook page.
