Want to ride in a $1.1 million McLaren P1? Uber it.
National Geographic has teamed up with Uber to promote its latest show, Breakthrough. As reported in Tech Times, this partnership will bring a fleet of hybrid, electric and alternative-fuel vehicles including the $1.1 million McLaren P1 to New York City to give passengers free rides. And yes, P1 is a hybrid.
Those who wish to take a ride in a McLaren P1 in New York, all they need to do is simply Uber it.
Further details about how the promo works were reported in Mashable. It is said that you may not request for the P1 specifically, however Uber users can open the app, type in the promo code "BREAKTHROUGH" and get picked up in a variety of alternative-fuel vehicles. These vehicles include the BMW i8, Tesla Model S and various solar-powered prototypes, a biodiesel Porsche Cayenne and a lot more. The promo runs for a limited time that starts on October 27-30 between 12pm and 7pm. More so, this promo is only available in Manhattan below 59th Street.
The latest show of National Geographic, Breakthrough, is a celebration of "real-time scientific discovery". The selection of vehicles was reported to be made to get New Yorkers in the cutting edge of automotive technology. That explains the inclusion of P1. The vehicle uses a 3.8 litre twin-turbo V8 rated at 727 horsepower and augmented by a 176-hp electric motor giving you a combined power of 903 hp. The vehicle can be driven in silent, full-electric mode up to six miles.
The P1 gets an EPA-certified 18 miles per gallon combined city/highway fuel economy which may sound unimpressive unless you realize that the vehicle is capable of covering a quarter-mile distance in less than 10 seconds from a full stop. Indeed, one of the fastest cars in the world.
The show will premiere on National Geographic on November 1. Each and every episode will follow scientific explorers who are working on newest and most advanced projects which have breakthrough potential. So if you are around New York area, you should absolutely book an Uber ride with one of these cars. The least that could happen is you'll get a free ride in a cool car or the best could be you'll ride in a P1.
