There are less than two months left before the premiere of 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens,' but J.J. Abrams admits that he is not yet done with the final cut despite the recent release of the last trailer.
The director recently attended the GLSEN Respect Awards, where he spoke to the Associated Press about the finishing touches on the film.
"The visual effects process goes on for so long," Abrams said. "My guess is, we'll probably be doing visual effects for the next three or four weeks, even though the cut will be done before that."
But that's not exactly what everyone wants to hear from the 'Star Wars' director about the final trailer. One reporter asked all the important questions, and got rather unusual responses.
Reporter: "No Luke! Where's Luke? What about him? What does that mean?"
J.J. Abrams: "These are good questions to be asking. I can't wait for you to find out the answer."
Reporter: "So there's a reason?"
J.J. Abrams: "It's no accident."
Although J.J. Abrams still refuses to address any Luke Skywalker-related inquiries, fans have had several theories on the role the Last Jedi will play in 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens.' One of the more outrageous speculations has even gone as far as claiming new villain Kylo Ren is actually Luke Skywalker.
A more plausible theory why the Last Jedi does not appear in the final 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' trailer (or poster) is that Luke Skywalker has finally given in to the Dark Side. This is hinted upon in the trailer, where a figure in a black hood reaches out with a robotic arm to R2-D2.
But why would Luke Skywalker choose to join the Dark Side? In an old episode of Dinner For Five, Mark Hamill has considered the idea after the events in 'The Empire Strikes Back' and has even pitched it to George Lucas. Coincidentally, J.J. Abrams also happened to be in the same episode, listening intently to the actor's evil Luke Skywalker pitch.
Did J.J. Abrams apply Mark Hamill's pitch to the sequel? All will be revealed when 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' premieres on December 18.
