Three To Four Cups Of Coffee A Day Can Reduce Risks Of Endometrial Cancer, Study Says

A recent study shows that drinking at least three cups of coffee a day could aid in reducing risks of endometrial cancer by almost 20 percent. It is also noted that previous clinical recommendations have ascertained that drinking cups of coffee regularly can be used in the prevention of breast, ovarian and skin cancers.

The American Cancer Society (ACS) stated that cancer of the endometrium is the most common cancer of the female reproductive organs in the United States - affecting one in 37 women in their lifetime. Figures showed that around 55,000 women will be diagnosed with endometrial cancer or uterine sarcomas this year. Among these reported cases, 10,000 patients seem to die from uterine sarcomas.

Thus, in a recent study, the team unearthed that drinking three to four cups of coffee a day could lower the risk of endometrial cancer by "almost a fifth". Though this disease is known to be rare in women under the age of 45, with around 3 in 4 cases diagnosed in women aged 55 and over in the U.S., it is still important that they keep themselves abreast of its risk factors, prevention and treatment.

"The coffee reduces estrogen levels in the body, changing the balance of hormones," lead researcher Melissa Merritt said. "We were not surprised by the results that a high versus low intake of coffee was associated with a reduced risk for endometrial cancer, because they were consistent with what has been observed in previous studies."

Health practitioners and medical experts explained that women can get rid of endometrial cancer if they work their way out of hormonal imbalances, diabetes, obesity, as well as unhealthy diet and lifestyle.

Other risk factors include having an inherited form of certain cancers, never being pregnant, being infertile, and even using "hormone therapy drug" that blocks the actions of estrogen.
