A Scrapped Star Wars Game Featuring Darth Maul Looking For a Second Life

Darth Maul may be close to getting a second chance in the video game world. The iconic, twin-bladed lightsaber wielding antagonist from Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace was set to be the main character in Red Fly Studios' Battle of the Sith Lords; a stealth-action game intended for the last generation of gaming consoles.

In development since 2010, the game was unfortunately cancelled as part of Disney's buyout of the Star Wars franchise and Lucasarts eventual shuttering in 2012.

It appears however, that the game - much like Darth Maul in the film - isn't quite dead yet.

Dan Borth, Red Fly Studio founder and one of the game's creators, recently took part in an ask me anything session on Reddit where he told fans that the company is in the process of reimagining the game for the current generation of systems.

"We are currently working on a full next get demo of all things Maul to show the powers that be... We have been burning a candle for this game since it was killed in hopes we can get it turned back on again. IF that is to happen, we need to approach EA with a demo that will impress them. I think we have that or are close to it." Says Borth.

He says that the title will follow a young Maul and will chart his journey to becoming Darth Sidious' apprentice.

''Young Maul age 9 or 11 to right before Episode 1. We wanted to show what he went through to become a Sith. Showcase the torture the Emperor put him through. Show how you as the player would have made the same mistakes and ended up a Sith.''
