Sherlock Update: 'Sherlock: The Abominable Bride' Release Date Revealed! [TRAILER]

Good news to all Sherlock fanatics!

The most awaited Sherlock special which is entitled 'Sherlock: The Abominable Bride' finally gets a release date. The BBC and PBS Masterpiece revealed that the Victorian special edition of the famous detective series will be shown on January 1, 2016.

Fans from the UK and the US will be able to witness the action drama on the same day as well. The one special episode of Sherlock will be a 90-minute long standalone episode.  This was confirmed by Steven Moffat, the co-showrunner of the British drama series who stated that the 'Sherlock: The Abominable Bride' will not be part of the run of three episodes.

"[Co-creator Mark Gatiss] and me, we wanted to do this, but it had to be a special, it had to be separate entity on its own. It's kind of in its own little bubble," Moffat stated.

The creators of the show have revealed that the special episode will be about the 1892 story of Doyle which is titled 'The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle'. The story is about a jewel theft and a plumber who has a criminal record.

Fans who get scared of ghost stories should ready themselves since the said episode will be spooky.

"This strand of Doyle original stories that are creepy and scary, and the chillers, we haven't done much with in the modern show. But putting it back into Victorian times, you think it's a chance to do a ghost story, really - a creepy, scary one," Moffat revealed.

Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman will still be playing as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. Characters like Mary Morstan, Inspector Lestrade and Mrs. Hudson will also be returning at 221b baker Street.

Since Sherlock took a long break, the hit drama series will surely gain many viewers. Besides the special episode, the regular fourth season of the modern-day Sherlock is already in work.

Sherlock season 4 is expected to be aired early next year.
