Nearly 15 years after entering's everyone's hearts (or nightmares) as the meanest judge on "American Idol," it's time for the King of Mean in talent shows to come back to American audiences as Simon Cowell's "AGT" judging becomes official.
For the past few years, Cowell has been on and off in the British "The X Factor," most recently joining again with Rita Ora and Nick Grimshaw, but it seems like it's time for his big comeback across the pond as Simon Cowell's "AGT" role is confirmed, as the 56 year-old producer is set to take Howard Stern's place, who announced a few months back that he'd be stepping down from the show for good.
"About five or six years ago, I was offered the chance to be on the show and, at the time, I couldn't do it. But I was a bit disappointed that I wasn't able to," the star told USA Today about the new Simon Cowell "AGT" appearance. " I think at the point we really knew Howard wasn't going to come back, we then had serious conversations with NBC. I thought, 'I think this is the right time.' So, I'm excited about it."
According to Us Weekly, nothing's changed for the British star since he left "American Idol" in 2011 even if he's become a dad since - Simon Cowell's "AGT" time won't see him getting any softer with contestants, saying he's not about to "lie to people when [he] think[s] they're hopeless."
As Entertainment Weekly reports, Simon Cowell's "AGT" judging makes all the sense in the world, as NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt confirmed that the star has been producing the show from the very start and "knows this format better than anyone," and indeed he would, being a veteran and pioneer in the talent show business.
Expect Simon Cowell's "AGT" debut soon as he joins the likes of Heidi Klum and Spice Girl Mel B!
