Daniel Craig and David Oyelowo Will Star Off Broadway in Othello

English actor Daniel Wroughton Craig better known as Daniel Craig who stars in the James Bond films, will play the role of Iago in the stage play by the New York Theater Workshop (NYTW), alongside with the British actor, producer and director - David Oyelowo in the title role.

The play in which the actor will star, will be presented in a 199-seat theater for a limited run, but the dates are yet to be revealed. Craig was educated at the National Youth Theatre and graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 1991. He actually began his career on stage, debuting in the drama, The Power of One.

The forthcoming play will be directed by Sam Gold - the theater director and actor who won the 2015 Tony Award for directing the musical Fun Home.

Director Sam Gold said that, he and the James Bond actor had been in talks for some time to work jointly on a theatre project, before they reached out to David Oyelowo.

Sam Gold added that he was very enthusiastic to present the play in a mini theatre for a reason that the intimacy it would provide, but it was also said that it is too early to give an account of the production and any particular details.

James Nicola, NYTW artistic director, said in a statement "When Sam Gold came to us with the starting sketches of this production, with these two sublime actors, it seemed the perfect next step for us to take together," "I'm eager to see what these original, creative artists come up with in response to Shakespeare's enduring tragedy."

The New York Theater Workshop (NYTW) has organized a number of productions which went on to Broadway successfully. To name some, there's Once, a play that was based on the 2006 novel of a similar name by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, another is Peter and the Starcatcher. However, the artistic director James Nicola said that a Broadway shift of Othello was unlikely given the restricted availability of the actors.
