McDonald's China has unveiled its new product, the gray burger - and it's getting infamous all over the internet because of its eccentric aesthetics.
The fast food chain calls it Modern Chinese Burger, and it features two pork patties, lettuce, bacon and a yellow- brownish dressing, carefully sandwiched between two, as Food beast describes as a "melancholically" gray buns, topped with black sesame seeds.
As Grub Street puts it, "Besides using the one color typically associated with boredom, the bun also looks alarmingly like two slabs of stone."
The "boring" burger has been getting skeptical rants from food bloggers and foodies alike. As written on Time Out Beijing, this new product "is a fusion of East and West that will once and for all transcend cultural and culinary boundaries. Or maybe, just maybe, it's just another vaguely offensive attempt to attract a new class of Chinese fast-food goers."
One of its writers, couldn't help but say "Fluffy grey buns to represent cloud of pollution?" as he gets hold of the burger. Candid and funny reactions surfaced as more and more people are trying out the burger.
Interestingly, in spite of the many side comments mocking the appearance of the Modern Chinese Burger, another writer points out its acceptable taste as he writes that the burger is "like the Justin Bieber or Chinese fast food. So much fun to hate, and really a soulless and offensive b*stard deep down, but in my car, alone, and utterly unwatched, you know I'm really enjoying it."
Imitation is the best form of flattery, but it seems like McDonald's China's attempt to nail Burger King Japan's jet black kuro burger's popularity remains in the gray area, but well, who knows?
The said product will be in the stores until November 3, just the perfect time for the Halloween.
