Who would have thought that Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) was in for a shock of her life as she met the doctor who failed to save her husband's, Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) life? What's worse is that, it was Callie's (Sara Ramirez), her friend's, new girlfriend!
This week's episode was like Meredith's revisiting the time when her husband died because of improperly trained doctors, after a car crash. She went on lecturing the interns and young doctors about breaking the bad news to the patient's family.
"Yours is the face they will remember for the rest of their life," she boldly told her interns. "You are changing this person's life forever. You are responsible for this moment." She concluded, "For the instant that person goes from wife to widow, is you."
As Meredith invited Callie for a dinner, she never thought that Penny, the doctor that was responsible for her husband's death, is coming in her house - stirring up her buried emotions about the loss of McDreamy.
Later on the show, a voice over of Meredith resonates as she recounted her heartbreaking moment: "People love to say that what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, but sometimes those people don't know what the hell they're talking about."
ET Online reported that Grey's Anatomy Executive Producer, Shonda Rhimes explained about the reason why they killed Dempsey's character: "As painful as it was for me as a storyteller, the only way to preserve what felt true to me was Derek was going to have to die for that love to remain honest."
Season 12 is really full of surprises! As Grey's Anatomy will be having an A-lister to direct episode 9. Two-time Oscar winner Denzel Washington has already signed on a contract to direct an episode of ABC's medical drama. Washington is scheduled to start shooting later this month for the said episode. This is gonna be his first time to be behind the scenes on a TV series. The actor is also a longtime friend of Grey's director Debbie Allen.
