Today, everyone has become fond of taking selfies, except for Cate Blanchett.
The 46-year-old actress doesn't seem to want to take participation in the latest trend of this generation which includes 'selfies.' Unlike many, Cate Blanchett dislikes the idea of constantly taking pictures of one's self in order to please other people.
"People constantly are taking pictures of ourselves to send them to people to see if they like me, 'Do they like me?' " the actress stated in an interview.
The 'Cinderella' star believes that making the said activity a habit is pitiful. The actress obviously dislikes the idea of counting what other people think about a certain individual.
"It's pathetic, the whole thing about people worrying about what other people are going to think," Blanchett said.
The Australian actress thinks that those who are constantly taking pictures of themselves for the purpose of gaining the approval of others is a sign of lack of self-respect. She also believes that it is somehow harmful because it stirs up jealousy among social media users.
The producer and theater director who starred in the 2015 film 'Carol' said that social media divides and alienates people really quickly from one another because of rivalry.
"It divides people really quickly and sets up rivalry and jealousy and a sense of: 'The life over there is better than the life over here," explained the actress.
The actress clarified that she understands that people naturally loves attention but it should not be the basis of defining an individual. Cate Blanchett said that some stars are only known for the clothes they wear and not on their actual achievement.
Blanchett revealed that she does not understand why adults are participating in the said trend. Though she is not a fan of social media, the actress is aware of the advantages of the Internet in the field of communication.
"There's a subversive quality to the Internet, and I do think there's a genuine ability to connect," the actress said.
Cate Blanchett will be back in theaters on October 16 for 'Truth.'
