While promoting his new film 'The Martian', Matt Damon talks about his 'Gone Girl' actor friend. Looking back to their past experiences, Damon stated that Affleck has always been misunderstood.

The 44-year-old award winning actor was referring to Affleck's past relationship with Jennifer Lopez more than 10 years ago. The screenwriter and producer blames his friend's publicized relationship with J.Lo which started in the year 2002 as the reason for Ben being misunderstood by many.

After being engaged, the 'Dance Again' singer and Ben Affleck started to be featured together on celebrity magazines.

"It was like he was being cast in a role, that he was a talentless kind of meathead, with his whole relationship with Jennifer Lopez. He just got cast as this person that he wasn't," Damon recalled.

The time when Ben and Jen were still together was a painful experience for Matt Damon as his friend. 'The Bourne Identity' actor believes it wasn't fair for his childhood friend.

"To my mind, nobody really got him at all," the actor said.

And now that Ben Affleck is at the top of his career which is a product of his hard work, Damon is happy for him.
