HBO's "Game of Thrones" gained 24 nominations in this year's Emmy Awards and they also hold the record for leaving the event with the most number of wins for a TV series, in just one year according to Variety. The show went home with a whopping number of 12 Emmy awards.
This TV series known for dragons and kingdom wars won 12 Emmy awards, which includes Outstanding Drama Series; Outstanding Writing for show runners David Benioff and Dan Weiss; Outstanding Directing for David Nutter; and Outstanding Supporting Actor for star Peter Dinklage.
Prior to the award's night itself, the show also won eight awards from a week before's Creative Arts Emmys and they are for Outstanding Make-Up for a Single-Camera Series (Non-Prosthetic); Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Drama Series; Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Contemporary or Fantasy Program; Outstanding Sound Editing for a Series; Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Scripted Series; Outstanding Special Visual Effects; Outstanding Stunt Coordination for a Drama Series and Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series.
The popular publication also added that The West Wing no longer holds the number of most won awards in the Emmy's since Game of Thrones swept it last Sunday. GOT is now in line with "Hill Street Blues" when it comes to holding the title for a drama series. The network HBO can also brag on the fact that they won 14 awards during the show, which includes scoring Outstanding Comedy Series for "Veep," and Outstanding Limited Series for "Olive Kitteridge."
BBC reported that it was also the first time ever that Game of Thrones bagged the best drama series award since it started airing back in 2011.
"Veep" from HBO as well, came in second when it comes to winning that night.
