A few days ago, it came out that Disney was planning a sequel to the widely beloved 1964 film that gave Julie Andrews an Oscar as well as jump-starting her career, and as there's nothing official as of yet regarding the "Mary Poppins" remake, there are already a few actress' names being said regarding casting options.
It seems like there are two very talented actresses, both of whom starred in "The Devil Wears Prada" and later fought each other on "Lip Sync Battle," who are being eyed by Disney for the title role of the "Mary Poppins" remake, as both Oscar winner Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt are being considered for Andrews' part.
According to Hello! Magazine, Hathaway is in fact the favorite for bookmakers to star in the "Mary Poppins" remake, as Irish betting agency BoyleSports has given the Oscar winner 6/4 odds at snagging the role among a large number of other contenders.
Screen Crush reports, however, that the "Les Miserables" star (who worked with Andrews on "The Princess Diaries" and its sequel) isn't the one most favored by Disney, but rather Blunt, who just last year starred on a Disney musical of her own, "Into the Woods," a film where she was directed by Rob Marshall, who's reportedly attached to be behind the screen in the "Mary Poppins" remake.
In the meantime, People Magazine has released a list of possible actresses to star in the "Mary Poppins" remake, of course including Hathaway and Blunt but also Kristen Bell (who voices Princess Anna in "Frozen" and is therefore already part of the Disney family), Gugu Mbatha-Raw (who will be playing Plumette in the 2017 live-action adaptation of "Beauty and the Beast" starring Emma Watson and Ian McKellen) and Amy Adams, who was nominated to a Golden Globe for playing a Disney princess on "Enchanted" co-starring Patrick Dempsey.
Fans are just waiting for that spoonful of sugar regarding the "Mary Poppins" remake casting!
