Emily Blunt has learned her lessons after being bashed on social media. The British actress has apologized to the public after joking that she regrets being an American citizen after watching Republican presidential debate.
Emily Blunt earlier appeared on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' and delivered a statement which then became controversial. Many took the 'Edge of Tomorrow' actress' joke seriously.
In another interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the statement of the London-born star was again misinterpreted by many.
"I became an American citizen recently, and that night, we watched the Republican debate and I thought, 'This was a terrible mistake. What have I done?'" Blunt said on the interview.
After realizing that many were offended by her careless jokes and statements, the 'Into the Woods' actress humbly appeared on the Today show and apologized for her verbal mistake. The 32-year-old actress clarified what her words truly meant.
"It was so not the intention to hurt anybody or cause any offense, so I really apologize to those that I caused offense. It was just an offhand joke. I think I'll probably leave the political jokes to late night or something," clarified the actress.
'The Devil Wears Prada' star also emphasized that she loves being an American. Her new citizenship is special to her since her husband and daughter are both American citizens.
"It's really meaningful. You know, I mean, my two favorite people in the world are American - my husband [John Krasinski] and my daughter. It was kind of a special day. Yeah, it was great!"
Though the actress sees herself as only half American, after she chose the American citizenship, the star realized that she has more knowledge about American history than British history.
Anna Kooiman of Fox and Friends' who expressed her disappointment on Emily Blunt's words has not yet responded to the admission of guilt of the actress.
