Minnesota Murder-Suicide: 5 Family Members, Including 3 Children, Found Dead Inside Home

Minnesota Murder-Suicide - On Thursday, a Minnesota lakeside home was found with five dead family members which include three children.

According to Interim Chief Mike Siitari, South Lake Minnetonka police did a welfare check on the family at approximately 12:21 p.m. local time following concerns from neighbors. The family had not been heard from for a few days during that time. It remains unclear how the family died, however, authorities said there is no current "threat or danger to the community."

The patriarch of the family was checked on by his co-worker and asked police to go to the home. The children had also not been seen in school, Minnetonka High School, two days prior to police finding the scene of the potential Minnesota murder-suicide, according to Fox News.

The identities of the family members have not been released. However, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, the work website of the father of the home have identified the adult victims as Brian and Karen Short. The children were all young teenagers.

The scene of the Minnesota murder-suicide was called by the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office as a "complex crime scene."

"Obviously it's an extremely tragic event and it's going to take some time to sort through," Siitari said.

The home, located in an upscale western Minneapolis neighborhood, was reportedly built in 1998. The adult victims bought the lakeside home in 2011 for $2 million, according to Hennepin County records.

The father of the victim family in the Minnesota murder-suicide is the founder of AllNurses.com, a website finding resource for nurses. According to an online biography, Short was a one-time nursing student and entrepreneur who created the website in the late 1990s due to lack in nursing-related information online.

On Thursday night, AllNurses.com posted a notice saying that the family had been killed in the and that the Minnesota murder-suicide is "a very tragic loss for the extended families, friends, co-workers, and this nursing community."
