'Hannibal' Director David Slade Joins Bryan Fuller For 'American Gods' TV Series

Bryan Fuller seems to be bringing the 'Hannibal' crew over to the production of 'American Gods!'

According to Deadline, former 'Hannibal' executive producer and director David Slade has signed on to the upcoming adaptation of Neil Gaiman's novel. Slade will serve as executive producer as well as director of the pilot episode while Bryan Fuller and 'Gotham' EP Michael Green will be the showrunners.

David Slade has previously directed episodes for 'Breaking Bad,' 'Hannibal' and 'Crossbones.' He also directed the 2005 Ellen Page thriller 'Hard Candy,' as well as the horror film '30 Days of Night' and the movie adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's book 'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.'

'American Gods' was released in 2001 and has won the 2002 Hugo, Nebula and Bram Stoker awards for Best Novel. It follows the story of an ex-convict named Shadow who finds himself employed by an elderly con man simply known as Mr. Wednesday. As they travel across America, Shadow finds out that the old gods coexist with the new gods and that they are all getting ready for a war.

Neil Gaiman, who will also executive produce and write the screenplay for some of the episodes, has previously expressed his excitement over seeing 'American Gods' brought to the small screen.

"I am thrilled, scared, delighted, nervous and a ball of glorious anticipation," Gaiman said. "The team that is going to bring the world of 'American Gods' to the screen has been assembled like the master criminals in a caper movie: I'm relieved and confident that my baby is in good hands. Now we finally move to the exciting business that fans have been doing for the last dozen years: casting our Shadow, our Wednesday, our Laura..."

The 'American Gods' TV series has already started pre-production and is expected to air by late 2016.
