Miss America 2016: Miss Florida Won Swimsuit Competition, Miss Louisiana Gained Standing Ovation With Her Singing Talent

The search for the deserving beautiful, talented and smart woman to be crowned as Miss America 2016 begins. As the prestigious competition for women start, the 52 participants from 50 different states also began impressing the people of America, most especially the judges.

The lovely women will be scored based on different categories namely talent, lifestyle and fitness in swimsuit, evening wear and on the spot question and answer portion. Celebrity judges for the 2016 competition include Taya Kyle, Danica McKellar, Amy Purdy, Zendaya Kevin O'Leary, Brett Eldredge and former Miss America Vanessa Williams.

During the second night of the preliminaries held last Wednesday, Miss Florida impressed the judges with her lovely figure and won the swimsuit competition. Miss Louisiana, on the other hand, won during the talent portion for her impressive 'Climb Every Mountain' rendition. The lady pleased the crowd and got one standing ovation during the event.

Miss Louisiana who is April Nelson then revealed that she is really into music. She says, "I was a musical theater major in college and I fell in love with 'The Sound of Music,' when I saw Julie Andrews spinning around on that mountaintop."

The preliminary competition will last for three nights where the participants will introduce and promote themselves to make their home state proud.

Last Tuesday night, Miss Taylor Wiebers representing Iowa was able to win the talent portion. Miss Daja Dial of South Carolina won the swimsuit competition.

Miss Colorado who is a nurse surprised everyone with her monologue about her profession. Unlike the usual song or dance number, she told stories about her patient who taught her many things and let her see the world while wearing a scrub suit and stethoscope around her neck.

The patient who had Alzheimer's disease made Miss Colorado see her worth. Though uncommon, the contestant touched the heart of the viewers.
