Fresno Man: Survives, Saves Ribs from Burning Home, ‘I Didn’t Want To Let My Ribs Burn’ [VIDEO + REPORT]

A Fresno man who survived an apartment fire is gaining the internet's attention, and it's not for surviving the fire. The man, who loves in Fresno, California, saw a fire engulfing the apartment next to him, leading him to rescue his children - and some ribs.

The man, identified as Robert Wright, apparently couldn't handle seeing his food burning along with his apartment, which is why he decided to risk going back into the soon-to-be-burned apartment and save his precious ribs, according to Food Beast.

On Tuesday around 2:30 a.m., firefighters responded to a call to a Roberts Avenue complex, located near Cedar Avenue. Firefighters arrived to an apartment filled with flames and heavy smoke, reported ABC 13.

According to fire officials, the Fresno blaze began shortly before 3 a.m. Tuesday.

KMPH photojournalists met Robert Wright while covering the scene. Wright told them he was at home as the fire spread. In fact, he was barbecuing the rescued ribs when the fire began at his next door apartment, according to KFOR.

Wright told his funny, albeit heroic tale in an interview with KMPH Fox, all while caressing his prized ribs in his arms.

According to Wright, he felt hungry around 3 a.m., which is why he was barbecuing during those wee hours. He then noticed the next door apartment burning, with flames almost bursting into his window.

"I seen some fire just come all out the window man, the window busted out man," said Wright. "The only thing I think first man, make sure them ribs is right ... I'm going to enjoy this barbecue though man."

Wright also reportedly managed to save his kids first, and once he was sure they were safe from the burning complex, he went back into the apartment and saved his ribs before they got burned and he wouldn't be able to eat them.

"I got my kids first and then I thought about my ribs and I didn't want to let my ribs burn," said Wright.

Fortunately, there were no injuries nor fatalities from the fire. As for Wright's heroism, it's going viral.
