Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe has been embracing the 'muggle' world as he portrays the life of the co-founder and president of the company behind Grand Theft Auto, Sam Houser of Rockstar Games on BBC Two drama.
The 26-year-old Radcliffe stars as the prodigy behind the most profitable video game ever made, the Grand Theft Auto. The drama is set in 2002 and revolves around the famous censorship battle over the whole Grand Theft Auto series. Along with the drama and controversies of its brain father, Sam Houser in his quest to reform and level up the video game industry. Bill Paxton plays the role of the radical moral activist and lawyer, Jack Thompson who opposes the moral values of the game, because of its graphic depictions of violence and sex.
According to the Guardian, Rockstar Games is not pleased with the whole idea of the movie and in May of this year, they were reported to have launched legal actions against BBC for trademark infringement for the said project.
In an interview, a Rockstar spokesperson said: "We have attempted multiple times to resolve this matter with the BBC without any meaningful resolution. It is our obligation to protect our intellectual property and unfortunately in this case litigation was necessary."
The BBC issued a press release following that incident that says: "This drama is for an adult audience and has not been authorised by the producers of Grand Theft Auto. Rather, it is based on court documents and interviews with many of those involved in the real events behind this compelling story."
The 90-minute biopic is written by Steve Hammond, with script by James Wood produced by Jim Spencer and directed Owen Harris, who has directed episodes of U.K dramas Black Mirror and Misfits.
It premieres in the U.K. on September 15, 9PM in BBC Two.
