Paula Deen is a popular television personality on The Food Network. She shows viewers how to prepare Southern comfort foods like fried chicken, mashed potatoes and pie.
The Food Network star was not an overnight success; she worked many years as a restaurant owner before launching a television career. In the early 90's, she opened up her first restaurant; it was called The Lady and Sons. It fit approximately 40 people. The restaurant was small however it had the ability to accumulate a following and in 1995 it moved to a more profitable location in Savannah, Georgia. This is where the restaurant currently exists.
Paula Deen along with her family members struggled with their weight; together they decided to make some lifestyle changes in order to become healthier. In January 2013, Deen made headlines all over the internet when she appeared slimmer. According to an article from The Huffington Post, Deen began replacing Greek yogurt in her recipes that required a creamy texture.
Now Paula Deen along with her two sons is collaborating with Novo Nordisk on Diabetes in a New Light(R). The company provides delicious recipes for those individuals living with type 2 Diabetes. On the company's website, she expressed her gratitude and how excited she is to be partnering with them. She altered some of her favorite recipes to make them type 2 Diabetes friendly. She listed her Hot Artichoke-Spinach Dip which contains 50 fewer calories per serving. She also posted her Vegetarian Gumbo which contains 180 fewer calories per serving along with decreasing the sodium content by 600mg.
Since she began participating in a healthier lifestyle; she incorporates exercise in to her daily activities along with monitoring her blood sugar levels. She walks approximately 1 mile on her treadmill and engages in activities such as painting, gardening and shelling to aid in reducing any stress she experiences.
She encourages people with type 2 Diabetes to talk about their story with others because it can cause them to want to live a better life style. Paula Deen began her career as a small restaurant owner. Now she is lending a helping hand to those suffering from type 2 Diabetes along with starring on three different cooking shows.
