Yum! Brands is trying their best to fix their image after KFC's sales in China plummeted because people found out about the large amounts of antibiotics that were being injected into their chickens. Yum! Brands is the owner of well know fast food chains such as KFC, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut. One of the companies spokesperson's said as soon as they were informed about this issue they immediately pulled the poultry from outlets. The company is going to be examining the sources they receive their chickens from and will not be working with any small farms that are difficult to track. So far the company has ended their relationship with approximately 1,000 small farms. They plan on only working with poultry suppliers that they can frequently monitor as well as test their supplies. The company currently has over 4,000 KFC outlets in China.
They might be experiencing issues with their KFC section of their name however Taco Bell, is doing quite well. Taco Bell plans to release their Doritos Locos Tacos on March 7. The CEO of Taco Bell stated, "Doritos Locos Tacos now account for about a quarter of all taco sales". He also said the company plans on introducing more Dorito flavors. Pizza Hut recently updated their menu by adding mini pizzas to their menu. The price is quite affordable; they are 9 for $10. They are also offering consumers the $10 dollar dinner box. This includes one medium rectangular 1-topping pizza, 5 breadsticks with marinara dipping sauce, and 10 cinnamon sticks with icing - all in one convenient box.
Over the past couple of months, the Yum! stock has been suffering; in November of 2012, it was $73.89 per share by early December it was $65.09. Since December, the stock is slowing beginning to increase. On February 28, it ended the day at $65.48. On March 1, 2013 it ended the day at $65.21. The price of the stock seems to be standing around $65 per share; the scandal did cause the brand to suffer however they seem to be recuperating. Their plan to monitor the poultry farms they associate themselves with should aid in restoring their name.
