According to recent scientific studies, if a woman consumes too much Vitamin D during her pregnancy, it could lead to food allergies. Vitamin D can be found in foods such as eggs, fish and fortified milk. According to the Mayo Clinic, doctors believe it helps strengthen bones and increases bone density and decreases fractures. They are also finding that it can protect the human body against high blood pressure and osteoporosis. The Vitamin has been proven to have a positive effect on our bodies however according to Food Navigator, if a pregnant woman takes in too much Vitamin D it could have harmful effects on the fetus. The article went on to explain how Dr. Kristen Weibe, based out of Germany performed an experiment amongst 622 mothers and 629 children; their Vitamin D levels were checked throughout their pregnancy and at the time of their births. The team tested the children when they were two years old and they found that children that experienced a lower Vitamin D intake during pregnancy tested negative for food allergies.
Unfortunately, the children whose mothers had a high intake of the supplement were more likely to experience food allergies. They also found that these children had food allergies to products like soy beans, egg whites and milk protein. Weibe believes that too much of the supplement can slow down the development of certain cells which can result in a food allergy. Dr. Kristen Weibe also calculated the amount of time the women spent getting sun exposure and the time of the year the women were experiencing pregnancy. According to Dr. Weibe how much Vitamin D your body consumes changes throughout the year. Obviously people take in more sun in the summer time versus, the winter. The research does indeed make sense; too much of anything can result in a negative outcome.
