'Katherine Heigl' Comes Back as a Lawyer in CBS Drama Pilot 'Doubt'

Katherine Heigl's state of affairs has improved much considering.  She has played several roles including a TV Doctor and a CIA Analyst.  Now, she's set to play another one, this time as a lawyer.

Heigl has landed the starring role in CBS' revamping of its drama pilot Doubt, replacing KaDee Strickland (Private Practice) who originally filled the role according to Variety.  The new CBS drama pilot reunites the actress with Grey's Anatomy executive producers, Tony Phalen and Joan Rater.  Heigl will also work alongside Teddy Sears, Dule Hill, Laverne Cox, Kobi Libii, Elliot Gould and Dreama Walker.  The actress will play as Sadie Ellis, a smart, chic and successful defense lawyer at a boutique firm who gets involved with one of her clients who's innocence is yet to be proven.

Doubt is helmed by Phelan and Rater, who served as writers on Grey's Anatomy when Heigl still starred in the ABC drama for six seasons.  The new series was shot for this year's pilot season but the network decided to reshoot and recast the project rather than pick the title up to series.

Hegl's previous series, NBC's State of Affairs, was cancelled in May after only one season.  After much controversy, the actress reunites with Grey's Anatomy producers, Phelen and Rater.  Back in 2008, Heigl caused a bit of a stir when she removed her name from Emmy consideration, stating that she feels she was not given the material to warrant the nomination.  Althoug the actress stayed for another two years after the incident, her relationship with Shonda Rhimes seemed strained.  Four years later, Rhimes, creator of Grey' Anatomy, spoke about the controversy with Oprah.  She said that she wasn't surprised with what happened, "On some level it stung and on some level I was not surprised.  When people show you who they are, believe them. I carry that [mantra] with me a lot. It has served me well."
