Jon Bon Jovi ,an American singer-songwriter and record-producer, was scheduled to perform in Stanley Park, Vancouver. However, the show was cancelled, due to unforeseen conflicts with the promoter.
The disagreement between Bon Jovi's management and Paper Rain, the promoter, started when the latter announced the cancellation of the show due to low ticket sales. While the former, claimed that vendors were not paid accordingly, nor were the stage equipment acquired appropriately. The claim of the rock star's management is further supported by the fact that the Vancouver City representative said that the promoter failed to obtain the necessary permits for the show.
After expressing his sentiments of regret to the fans and assuring them that he was not primarily responsible for the unfortunate turn of events. Bon Jovi commented that, "What started out as an invitation to go and perform, in a park that I liked, with a summertime kind of block party feel, unfortunately, turned into something rather messy for a lot of folk." He further stated that," Stanley Park, isn't just some park. It holds a lot of nostalgic memories for me. It's a place where I run, for 30 years." The gig in Canada filled the singer with sentiment, as he recorded the albums- Slippery When Wet, New Jersey and Keep the Faith, while living there in 1986 to 1992.
The rock-star, aware of his obligations to the fans and a believer of upholding one's integrity, also said" If you give your word to somebody, I think you should do the very best you can to follow through on that word."
He then took the initiative to rebook a new venue for the show.
