Cara Delevingne opens up about how modelling made her hate her body and why she has decided to ditch her fashion career for acting.
People Magazine reports that in her recent interview with The Times, the British model shared she's "not doing fashion work anymore," saying being in the limelight as one of the most sought-after supermodels "wasn't a good time" for her.
"It didn't make me grow at all as a human being," Delevingne told the London-based magazine. "And I kind of forgot how young I was. I felt so old."
The 23-year-old said living in the fashion scene made her "feel a bit hollow."
"I was, like, fight and flight for months. Just constantly on edge," she added. "It is a mental thing as well because if you hate yourself and your body and the way you look, it just gets worse and worse."
One of the reasons that made Delevingne hate her body is how other people made her feel for having a skin affliction called "psoriasis" - a condition commonly struggled by celebrities due to their demanding schedules.
"People would put on gloves and not want to touch me because they thought it was, like, leprosy or something," she recalled saying the make-up team would cover it up with thick foundation "every single show."
Delevingne, who started out modelling as a teen in Burberry's 2011 campaign added she doesn't feel comfortable posing nude in sexually-suggestive shoots anymore after experiencing a number of sexual harassment incidents.
"I am a bit of a feminist and it makes me feel sick," she confessed. "It's horrible and it's disgusting."
The model-turned-actress has grown stronger and wiser in her showbiz experience, she is now moving forward to focus on her career in acting.
"I am very good at standing up for myself now, and for other people," she said. "I am a lot harder than I was and I feel like all of that modelling, life, rejection, everything, was preparation for this, and now that I am doing this I am the happiest person in the whole world."
