A classic beloved horror film will soon be turned into a TV show. The CW is bringing Jason Voorhees back from the dead as they create a drama series for "Friday the 13th," as reported by Deadline.

The CW president Mark Pedowitz announced the news on Tuesday during a Television Critics Association press tour, confirming to the publication: "They are in new development."

The series, written and executive produced by "The Pretender" creators Steve Mitchell and Craig Van Sickle, revolves around "the masked Jason with a stronger feel of grounded reality."

The hour-long episodes follows a detective in "search for his missing brother in a case linked to Vorhees, who soon returns to Crystal Lake to wreak more bloodthirsty havoc," as per Games Radar.

The TV adaptation of "Friday the 13th" seems to have long been in the works now. Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films and Crystal Lake Entertainment agreed to a production deal to create a drama series for the film last year.

The Nerdist reports that the 1980 film's original director, Sean Cunningham, will serve as an executive producer of the TV series. Randall Emmett, George Furla, and Mark Canton will also serve as producers for the show.

No word yet on who will star for the "sophisticated, horror/crime thriller."

This isn't the only franchise that The CW is turning into a series. Archie Comics' "Riverdale." "Frequency," "Little Women," and "The Notebook" have been confirmed to have TV show adaptations as well.

"I'm a big believer in titles and franchises. It makes them break out of the pack in some ways," said Pedowitz.

There have been 12 films under the "Friday the 13th" franchise since its 1980 film. The latest installment was the 2009 film, directed by Marcus Nispel.
