John Hurt is one of the most respected and prolific actors in Britain, having been a part of some of the biggest and most important films in recent history, including "Alien" and even the "Harry Potter" franchise, where he played wandmaker Ollivander - and as John Hurt's cancer battle continues, the actor turns into an example of dignity.
At 75 years of age, Hurt reached legendary status decades back, playing opposite the likes of Sigourney Weaver and even Richard Burton in "Nineteen Eighty-Four," as well as even playing iconic British character Doctor Who (more specifically, the War Doctor), but it's John Hurt's cancer battle that's turned him into a real hero.
It was only last June that the actor, who was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II earlier this year, spoke in a statement about John Hurt's cancer for the first time, announcing his decision to continue working in spite of his fight with the illness in his pancreas.
According to The Daily Mail, John Hurt's cancer makes news once more just two months later, the actor has spoken about his recently started course of chemotherapy, and it's impressive to see how hard the actor is fighting for his life - all while confessing he's not afraid of death.
The Mirror reports that the two-time Oscar nominee spoke about John Hurt's cancer treatment in a recent interview with Radio Times, where he spoke in passing about his chances of survival, and it very much looks like the world will have him around for a longer while yet!
"I can't say I worry about mortality, but it's impossible to get to my age and not have a little contemplation of it," Hurt said. "We're all just passing time, and occupy our chair very briefly. But my treatment is going terrifically well, so I'm optimistic."
According to Business Insider, in spite of John Hurt's cancer, the actor is currently filming a new version of "Tarzan" co-starring Samuel L. Jackson and Margot Robbie.
